My Journey as an Indie author
To celebrate my first 5 years of self-publishing, I did an e-book promo! I released Changeling Fate: The Adventures of Hawke Hunter as a free download. Now, I’m experimenting with other ideas, like audiobooks and Twine stories. Plus, I’m making the Archives.
You see, I have other books written, earlier ones that are not as polished as the books on my Bookshelf. The older stories are what I’d send my beta readers. So, are you interested in the Archives?
What are the Archives, you ask?
More books. All the books.
Whenever I discover an author I love, I want to read everything I can, everything they’ve ever written. My favorite authors when I was younger, like Anne McCaffrey and Madeline L’Engle, I could only read what the library had on hand. Luckily, it was a lot of their books. My ‘most read’ author is officially Diana Wynne Jones, and I have a few more of her books to track down and read, obscure titles. More recently, Frances Hardinge is one of my favorite authors; I savor each book she writes and hope that she writes for another 40 years.
The Archives is a member-only spot on my website. I don’t have it finalized yet. But I do have the books ready. Use my contact page for early access to the members-only club, (name not final).

Here’s the old download guide, from when I had the epub available on my website. You can use this guide to get any epub into your preferred reading app.
Old Download Guide
Download for iphone/ipad:
Easy. Click on your downloads and the epub file “Changeling Fate.epub’ should open straight into the BOOKS app. Once it loads you can start reading and the epub will be available in your library.
Download for Play Books
Download the epub file I send you. Then locate that file in your Android download folder in your Settings/Storage/Downloads or check your ‘Files’ App. Select the epub ‘Changeling Fate.epub’ and then ‘open with’. This will load the book into Play Books.
Share to Kindle for Android
It’s ridiculously complicated to get epub files on the Kindle. Amazon is determined to lock you into their private system, where you can only buy from them to read book with their app. However, currently it is still possible to read epubs on your kindle. Here’s how
Start by downloading the epub file, then follow these steps.
- First, open your Kindle app and find the settings icon. There’s a ‘More menu’ at the bottom and then a gear ion with ‘Settings’.
- Now look for ‘Local File Access’. Click on this heading to “enable or disable access to view files on your devise in your Kindle library”
- Click on Add Folder. You can select downloads here. (I created an ‘epub’ folder on my phone. So I selected ‘epub’ as my folder.)
- Second, you need your epub file inside the same folder you selected above. So check your phone settings, find the storage app and go to your downloads. You have to make sure it is in the right place.
- Third once the epub is in the right folder you can ‘share it’ with the Kindle App. This action should be available in the menu with the three little dots next to your file. And once you share it with your Kindle, it should trigger the book being imported into Kindle. It’s all a bit persnickety, so don’t worry if it doesn’t work right way.
- You might need to refresh the app. Give it a moment to connect behind the scenes and upload to the cloud.
- Then BAM! You’ll have the book cover in your library and the book is ready to read on your Kindle.
I hope the guide helps, but if you’re struggling please reach out to me!
